Leisa Barry-Smith

Background: One of Queensland’s leading cabaret and music theatre performers. Studied at Queensland University of Technology Academy of the Arts graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama.

For Opera Queensland: Co-creator of the productions Waltzing Our Matilda and The Food of Love. Theatre credits: Eponine in Les Misérables, Mary Magdelene in Jesus Christ Superstar, The Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods, Sister Robert Ann in Nunsense II, Sylviane in The Merry Widow, Anita in West Side Story, Doll in Federation Ragtime, Judy Denmark in the Ruthless. Toured Australia and New Zealand in H.M.S. Pinafore and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Appeared in DIVAS (Harvest Rain Theatre Company).  Starred in A Slightly Sondheim Wedding (which she conceived and wrote with Megan Shorey for Oscar Theatre Company).

Other engagements: Performed with The Queensland Orchestra’s cabaret ensemble X-collective in their Pick A Box tour. Toured with X-Collective in their new show Circus of Fools. Performed in the movie/musical Blueberry Lane. Has also written and directed shows for Dreamworld, the RNA, The Queensland Orchestra and the Seven and Ten television networks.
