Verdi adored Shakespeare, and his three Shakespearian operas: Macbeth, Otello and Falstaff are proof of the affinity the composer felt with his playwright hero. Producing multiple works year in, year out, both Shakespeare and Verdi lived for the stage, and both were intensely involved with the direction and performance of their works.
The combined creative genius of Verdi and Shakespeare in these three operas will make compelling discussion in this final Space Between panel discussion for 2013.
In this Verdi bicentennial year, as OperaQ prepares its new production of Otello, moderator Martin Buzacott will lead a fascinating discussion on the impact of these Theatre Titans with a panel including leading Shakespeare and opera director Simon Phillips, opera luminary Marilyn Richardson and music specialist John Colwill, with performances by OperaQ artists Cheryl Barker and Douglas McNicol.
